Hoobiyee 2026
Hoobiyee is a traditional Nisg̱a’a celebration marking renewal and the return of saak (oolichan), the first fresh food of the year. Guided by the crescent “Hoobiyee moon,” the event reflects hopes for abundance and a prosperous year ahead.
Held annually in February, Hoobiyee coincides with the start of the oolichan harvest. In 2026, visitors are welcomed to experience this meaningful cultural celebration in the Nisg̱a’a village of Gitwinksihlkw.
Hoobiyee 2026 is hosted by the Nisga’a village of Gitwinksihlkw and the Gitwinksihlkw Four Crest Dancers.
