Gruchy’s Beach

Close to town, easy to reach, and quietly scenic—this is a low-effort, high-reward outing with wildlife viewing in season and simple comforts at the beach.
Located just 12 km south of Terrace, Gruchy’s Beach is a hidden gem for nature lovers. The route is flat and family-friendly, passing through.
The Picnic Site is open from mid-May to September. Use the map below to help plan your visit.
The trail
From the parking area, it’s roughly 1 km each way on a well-maintained path with boardwalk sections and creek viewpoints. The walk is suitable for most abilities and strollers.


Fish viewing & seasonal highlights
A short spur near the trailhead leads to the Williams Creek fish-viewing platform.
Salmon viewing is best in late summer (typically July–August for sockeye).
At the Beach
The trail ends at a sandy shoreline with mountain views—good for picnics, swimming in warmer months, and relaxing. Amenities include an outhouse and a seasonally installed volleyball net. Also, William’s Creek is nearby and a popular spot where some people fish.

- Dogs on leash on trail and beach.
- Pack in/pack out; no fires.
- Limited shade at the beach—bring sun protection.
- Open year-round for day use.
Getting here
Lakelse Lake Provincial Park is located approximately 20 km south of Terrace on Highway 37. From the junction of Highways 37 and 16, it is:
- 14 km to Gruchy’s Beach
- 15 km to the Lakelse Lake Picnic Site
- 19 km to Furlong Bay Campground

Visitor reviews

The beach is accessed by an easy 1 km trail that follows along Williams Creek through an old growth forest.
