For my friend's birthday a couple years ago, about 15 of our friends hiked up Gunsite, across from Lakelse Lake. It was a tougher and longer hike than we expected and a quarter of the way up we considered turning back. We kept on though, determined to make it. When we finally got to the top, some of us as late as 11 pm, it was freezing. The last half hour we were hiking in snow. So much for checking out the lake at the top. We couldn't help but laugh at the whole situation. We could have been miserable but instead we were exhilarated. We warmed ourselves by the fire and celebrated our friend's birthday with cake. The next day was so sunny and warm. We couldn't see the lake but the views were breathtaking. We were exhausted when we finally got down to our cars – the blisters on my heels were raw and painful - but it was a happy, satisfying kind of exhausted. To this day, we are so happy we did that hike.
Has living in the Terrace area changed your life in any way:
Living in Terrace makes it possible for me to outdoorsy lifestyle I've always wanted. I spend part of every day outside. Whether I'm walking my dog, biking, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, or just hanging out at the lake, I'm in or near nature, breathing fresh air, and that makes all the difference.
What are your main reasons for choosing to live in the Terrace area?
I spent almost ten years moving from city to city before I moved to Terrace. When I moved here, though, everything fell into place. It all felt right. I couldn't ask for better friends than those I've met here. Everyone is so generous and supportive, and I love our healthy active lifestyle. Now, I can't imagine living anywhere else.
